Artist Matteo Caloiaro captures the vibrant hustle and bustle of the urban environment. Caloiaro recently graduated in 2007 from Ringling School of Art and Design in Florida where he currently teaches. Caloiaro’s emphatic brushwork offers a carefully observed yet loosely playful interpretation of the classic city scene. For example, his painterly description of a rainy afternoon in the city depicts iconic yellow taxis rushing to pick up their next passenger, each wonderfully complimented by their watery reflections. The play of light in his work captures the viewer’s attention and demonstrates Caloiaro’s proficiency as a painter. His work has been exhibited alongside that of prominent artists such as Hodges Soileau, Clayton Beck III, Robert Liberace, and David Leffel.
