“My current work investigates relations between man-made architectural structure and the natural landscape; questions arise at how these two forces coexist in an urban environment. While both phenomena occur in all environments, I am most interested in the dynamic in a high contrast urban context. The correlation between urban decay and natural beauty (both at the micro and macro level) influence the work. How we interpret beauty and questions about values are addressed.” - Jeffrey Hirst
Jeffery Hirst received his MFA from Louisiana State University and his studio practice is currently based out of Chicago, Illinois. For his “shaped paintings,” Hirst first builds non-uniform panels that serve as substrate for a highly developed surface, layered with encaustic and oil. His works also include hand-pulled prints and assemblages. They are included in numerous public and private collections.
