A native of San Diego, Brooke Olivares currently resides in Sarasota, Florida where she is an instructor at Ringling College of Art & Design. She teaches an array of classes including Illustration, Design Fundamentals, and Figure Drawing. In 2006 she received her BFA in Illustration from Ringling College of Art and Design . Additional study has included two summers at The Illustration Academy.
As a painter, she is inspired by artists such as Cezanne, Degas, Sargent, Bellows, Sarolla. Many of her works are figurative pieces that, in an elegant fashion, seem to grant the viewer an intimate glimpse at her subjects in everyday moments. These works often begin with observational drawings from life that are recorded in a sketchbook. It can be anything from a simple pencil sketch to a miniature acrylic painting that captures the light and subtle color of an interior space. Brooke’s choice in figurative subject matter, often children playing, reading, eating, or sleeping, comes from nostalgia of a child’s quiet moments at home. These moments are fleeting and yet timeless as well.
